WELLS FARGO CHAMPIONSHIP
Location: Wilmington, NC | Course: Eagle Point Golf Club,
Dustin Johnson returned to the fairways this week after a months lay off due to his untimely slip down the stairs the night before the Masters Tournament and almost turned the Wells Fargo Championship into the Dustin Johnson show. A birdie blitz on 17 and 18 in the final round gave Brian Harman a 1 shot victory ( 10) over Johnson and Pat Perez to earn him his first PGA Tour win this year.

A new concept to hit the European Tour this week in the form of GolfSixes. The format was a 2 man team from 16 nations from around the world playing 6 holes over 2 days.
The first day’s play see the teams split into four groups of four – similar to the UEFA Champions League football group stages – before the top two teams from each group progress to the knockout stages – the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, a 3rd/4th place play-off match and the final – all of which will be contested on Sunday.
In the group stages, three points will be given for winning a match with one point given for a draw, so you won’t be 2 up with 1 to play, the match goes all the way with the team 1 down able to earn an extra point by winning the final hole leaving the match at 2-2. The matches themselves are played in a greensomes match play format. There is also the shot clock which penalises a player 1 shot if the clock sounds before they have compleated their shot. In the first two group matches players were allowed 40 seconds on the clock but in the remaining sessions, that time was reduced to 30 seconds. Only one player fell foul of the clock, American Paul Peterson, which eventually cost him and his partner a place in the quarter-finals.
The eventual winners from Denmark Thorbjorn Olesen and Lucas Bjerregaard beat Team Australia 3-1 with Team Scotland finishing 3rd.
Seems like a winning format all round and a great time was had by all.
