AT&T Byron Nelson

Billy Horschel broke his run of 4 straight missed cuts by carding 4 rounds in the 60’s and earn a playoff with Jason Day who also shot 4 rounds in the 60’s and both finishing on -12. But it was Horschell who held his nerve with a par on the first extra hole to Day’s bogey 5.

European Tour

The Rocco Forte Open

Verdura, Sicily

After nearly 6 years without a win, Alvaro Quiros finally managed to put his bad times behind him and earn his Tour card (which he lost last year, finishing 703 in the World Rankings) with a win in Sicily.  Although 4 shots ahead going into the final round Quiros stumbled over the line to set up a playoff with South Africa’s Zander Lombard both finishing on -14.

The first extra hole saw both players par but on the second hole Quiros pared and Lombard bogeyed. Maybe not the most convincing win he will ever have but at least it moves him up to 145th in the world.

Kingsmill Championship Presented by JTBC
Williamsburg, VA

Lexi Thomson arrived on the Tee for her first round of the Kingsmill Championship from 10,000 feet in the air.

To launch her partnership with the US Navy Seal foundation that supports the families of injured and deceased Navy Seals she teamed up with the Frog X parachute team and jumped out of the plane at 10,000 feet.

The adrenalin must have stayed with her for the 4 rounds as she cruised to victory by 5 shots finishing on -20.

Other News

As forecast last week Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from the BMWChampionship at Wentworth next week. It seems a recent rib injury is taking more time to heal than was thought and he had been advised to take a slower recovery.

So it is the BMW next week and the weather is looking really good. It’s going to be a fantastic tournament as usual with Chris Wood trying to defend a magnificent tournament victory last year.

Have a great weeks golf, see you on the other side.
