PGA
Valero Texas Open
TPC San Antonio – AT&T Oaks, San Antonio, TX
Kevin Chappell won his first PGA Tour event on his 180th try at San Antonio with a putt of a little over 8 feet. Finishing on -12 he managed to hold off BROOKS KOEPKA who had already posted a score of -11.
It could have been so different for Chappell had he not bogeyed the last hole six years ago, ironically enough at the Valero Texas Open, to finish in sole second place to Brendan Steele. But the long-awaited win finally came when he held his nerve this time to hole out and lift the trophy.
European Tour
Shenzhen International
Genzon GC, Shenzhen, China PR
The Shenzhen International needed a playoff before Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger finally overcame the tremendous fight back from Englands Tommy Fleetwood.
Starting the final round Fleetwood was 8 shots of the lead and fired home a magnificent -9 to match Wiesberger’s -16. But it wasn’t to be Fleetwood’s day, playing the 18th as the first extra hole Bernd Wiesberger birdied out to hold of Fleetwood who could only manage a par.
This was Wiesberger’s first win of the season on the European Tour and 4th overall.
LPGA
With no official tournament this week the ladies head over to Texas for the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout next week and with holder Jenny Shin hoping to get her season back on track after a slow start.
