La Manga West Course
The West Course was designed by Golf Professional and course designer Dave Thomas and was originally a nine-hole course.
Work started in 1986 and was completed in just nine months.
It was originally called the Atamaria Course, as it was much closer to the site of the original village than the first two courses, South and North.
But the name was very soon changed to La Princessa.
1991 saw work begin on a second nine-hole course, which ran adjacent to La Princessa.
This was Initially called Las Sabinas but again was subject to a name change to La Princessa II.
In 1996 the two courses joined forces and became an eighteen-hole course at which time it was renamed the West Course.
The West Course, with its undulating fairways and differing elevations, will certainly offer a different set of challenges on both nines.
The front nine will demand accurate driving to avoid the ‘barrancos’, while playing the back nine, up amongst the hills and trees, you will find more open but still with challenges to overcome.
The West Course is rated 8th Best Course in Southern Spain and 17th Best Course overall in Spain
